The cast glass technique involves aligning or overlapping pieces of coloured glass on a base of transparent glass (casting base) to reproduce the idea of the artist from a draft enlarged to life-size.

Stebo cast glass products are made using plates of glass that to all intents and purposes must be entirely compatible with each other in view of problems associated with the tensions that may arise in the cooling stage. This is why we use materials such as DESAG – Antikglas from Germany and BULLSEYE from America.

The castings are made starting with a transparent base usually 4mm thick, the entire surface is then overlaid with pieces of glass and/or coloured glass shot 3 mm thick.

Once the mosaic is completed, it is cured in a computer-controlled refractory furnace at an average internal temperature of about 820 °C for an average time of 1h 30min to ensure uniform casting.

Cooling is the most critical stage. It must never be less than about 12/16 h, given the problems mentioned above, and the result is a flat cast glass work 8/10 mm thick on average.

We can also supply thicker castings of up to 20/22 mm in thickness with curved portions to meet any type of request.
